“Being truly alive, essentially means to be CREATIVE.“
As a toddler I was always surrounded by art. Before I had words I painted together with my mum, who was a gifted creative soul, but never showed her art to the world. Mum breathed creativity in any corner of my little life, when I watched her paint brushes dancing effortless over a piece of paper and leaving a blooming rose behind.
I witnessed from early age on that expressing ourselves through art was something natural and essential for us humans like drinking enough water or eating nourishing food, when we are hungry. Since then, I have always had images in my mind, I am bringing into reality. Through painting, by writing stories or directing short films and videos. I never learned painting techniques beside in school, but the lessons in art always felt boring as a pupil. I still count my mum to the best art teachers I had so far. She did not advise or correct me once. I am truly learning best, when I just have the possibility to observe and practice on my own without interfering of a teacher.
Have you ever wondered why you love the work of a certain film director or a certain artist?
One of the most important parts when it comes to art is the empty space. True beauty doesn’t depend so much on what we see or what we hear or what we read. But much more on what we don’t see, don’t hear and don’t read. Beauty through art is created when we creatives are focused on the empty spaces between. So that our words can breathe and enfold, so that our paintings don’t copy reality but create a complete new realm and our films can enlighten your heart and sing to your soul.
These are the questions you can ask yourself during the creative process:
What words can I leave out?
How can I reduce a shot to the absolute minimum, so the eyes and the attention of our audience will not be distracted by anything else?
While painting we create a completely different picture if we don’t focus on the thing we want to paint or show, but on the empty space instead. This is especially true when it comes to Watercolor, one of my favorite art forms in painting.
PAINTING was my initiation to live a creative life, no matter what profession I would later perform to make a living. And then I discovered READING AND WRITING stories. And my world grew bigger and bigger with each word.
